Social Interest in Pinterest

I noticed that the social aspect of Pinterest is a little different than that of say Facebook. I do a lot of pinning items that others have pinned, hence I am repining. I can see who has repined my items in the recent activity section. I can comment on my own pins when saving them to my boards.

Anyone, wither they are following me, repining my pins, or just browsing pinterest can comment on an item or I guess you would say image. A lot of the times you or I won’t know who these people are, because they can be anyone from anywhere unlike Facebook where only your friends can see certain things, posts, like things on your page etc. On pinterest, I can like any image, repin any image, or comment on any image.

As weird as it sounds people that I have observed on pinterest as well as I, get wrapped up in the images that interest us and do little actual interaction with others. I can however link my pinterest to Facebook or Twitter which are more of a social network. If I choose to link my pinterest to Facebook when I pin or repin something it will post on my Facebook and therefore my friends can comment  and converse with me on it.

If I’m following someone or someone’s boards on pinterest itself I can mention a pin to him or her. I can do this in a couple different ways, in a pin or repin description, or in a comment on a pin. I do this by typing an @ symbol directly followed by the persons pinterest user name. The matches to the user name come up and I choose who I want it to go to.  The user I mention receives a notification.

Another form of interaction is I can make my boards editable by me or by me and contributors. So I can add contributors that I follow, to my boards and then they can contribute. Also I noticed when I started pinterest I was able to add a picture, and an about me section, it’s pinterest version of a profile, and I can view who I’m repining from who I’m following, who’s me etc. The profile aspect has some similarities to Facebook or Twitter, yet it is extremely different.

Here is an image that someone pinned on Pinterest of Peanut butter Cup Brownies
They look delicious, do they not?

I learned a lot more about Pinterest today, and I hope to learn more as I go. I can’t wait until next week.
See you all soon!!!

  1. This is another site I have never heard of but, will be checking it out now just to see. I find it interesting that it sounds alot like facebook/twitter in many ways, pinning/posting,following/liking...finding people etc...I wonder why some sites become famous like facebook and others fall to the way-side unnoticed by many; when they appear to do the same things.
