Under the getting started area it went over the basics such as how to move around inside the Second Life community. There are three different ways: 1. is to use the arrow keys, 2nd is to use the w,s,a,d, keys, and the 3rd way is to use the numeric keypad (if the keyboard has one.)
One of the most surprising areas I discovered while going over the getting started area was the maturity ratings, and media access. They have it set up so certain regions use and adult maturity rating, which is a separate channel where people can talk through voice to one another instead of text chatting.
Creating an avatar was quite simple (which was part of the sign up process.) The first problem I had was with the downloading of Second Life to my computer. When it scanned my computer to make sure it had the right requirements, it showed my computer didn't meet them. This surprised me due to how old the community is. I didn't think my computer would have any problem, but due to the built in graphics on my motherboard, and not having any other graphics it posed a problem. Luckily it will run on my macbook so I am able to move forward on that.
When I entered Second Life for the first time I got to see how large the world is in it. There will be a lot of exploring to do, and meeting of people. I am hoping to get into some conversations with people who have been active with Second Life through all their ups and downs, and find out how this online community has changed.
