Hello all! I signed in to my old account at Foursquare and changed all of my account settings and was on my way to being a Foursquare member.
The registration process was very easy. On the main Web page www.foursquare.com it allows you to sign in using your email address or your Facebook or sign up for a new account. I clicked on the Facebook link and to my surprise, it brought me right to my old account. It was very easy to navigate through the account settings and change the information and update my picture.
Before I signed in though, on the main page above where you can sign in, there was a cute cartooned picture with a caption "Hi! I want to learn more about Foursquare." I decided to take the knowledge tour and clicked the link. A cute cartooned video opened explaining how foursquare will "make the world easier to use" by sharing photo's, seeing where friends are, getting discounts on your bill by checking in at their location, receiving "freebies" for bringing your friends, viewing specials from Foursquare, and earning a possible special parking spot for holding the mayor badge for a location.
After I signed in and changed my account information, I navigated my way through the site by just clicking on different tabs. I was not afraid to click on these tabs due to our chapter reading and learning that it is a good way to find out more about the site. At this time I realized that I had 19 new friend requests and they were all Facebook friends! How fun!!!
My first tab I clicked was the activity tab. It listed all my friends and where they had checked in at, along with my recent/past activity. It was really cool to see 13 minutes ago where a friend had checked in to.
When I went to the list tab it took me to a page that had a header of my home town and under it lists that included pictures of many different places, food, and activities that is recommended to me. Some of these places I had never even heard of. I found this to be a great marketing tool for businesses and a wonderful spot for me to find new places to go. You can also see other people's recommendations and comments regarding the locations. Also, I personally can create a different lists of places I recommend. Foursquare even gives you an example of a list you can make using your recent check-ins to help start your list making.
The explore tab allows you to put in your location and it gives you places Foursquare recommends or you can access a specific kind of place you are looking for that is in your area by browsing the categories offered.
All in all, I think this will be a fun way to let my friends know where I hang out and a good way to find new hot spots that may be a little hidden for myself and friends.
