Hello Everyone,
Since I was confused with the instructions which are now revised, I figure I
will do a small addition about the signing up and registration process for Star
Wars The Old Republic. I headed over to www.swtor.com and Came to their main
page. The game is looking very interesting and you can tell that there is a
great deal of community involvement in the forums, but I have yet to see if the
developers actually listen to we the people. They first talk about a weekend
pass on the main page, which is interesting yet I know that I need to play the
game more than just one weekend so I pass that up and click on the buy now for
60 dollars. Now I am in this all the way, no turning back now. It asks me to
sign up for an account in which I pick AllMusicman because I can't have my
normal tag with numbers which is musicman45666. Slightly angry about that, but
what can I do. At this time I am also downloading the client. After the client
installed, I am treated to a couple updates and more waiting. Then finally the
game booted up and I am created my character. The game has many servers to choose
from so I chose Assassins of Sion for my server. I created a Sith Warrior, with
red skin that reminds me of Darth Maul, Horns and all. I accessed a getting
started guide within the community at the Star Wars New Player Guide
This guide was mainly just an overview of the lore of Star Wars and why and
where you are at in the Star Wars lore time. It also touches on your allegiances
and your foes, as well as the fact that the game is a massively multiplayer
game. I was looking for more info on controls and the basic settings of the
game so i went to the game manual, but that also did not have what I was
looking for. So I figured to just log in with my character and see what they do
in game. Surprisingly, the guide on moving, attacking and all other functions
are in game which is nifty and not cumbersome at all. I get out of the starting
area and see a few low level players like myself, thrashing their training
light-sabers about. There is a lot of talk about trades and gear. All low level
stuff though, as the discussion is limited to my area. I will continue further
on this next week and go more in depth about the game and community. Getting
back to the initial signup process, the forums are lively with debate about
when updates are coming, bugs that people have seen or are seeing. I don't see
a whole lot of developer feedback, but maybe I'm not looking hard enough. It
still always makes me nervous when developers don't engage in feedback with the
community, as it makes me think that either they don't like hearing the
complaints, or they just don't care. The community on the other hand seems to
care greatly about this game and is full of vigor within their posts. I also
noticed on boot up today new for Star Wars Patch Notes. So they are fixing things, it just remains to be seen whether it is things
the community is clamoring for. I will leave everyone with a picture of
my character that I have now leveled since yesterday.
Til' next week, Miles Swanson
I love Star Wars. How cool is this that you get to do this for a Final Project! I found it interesting in your post about how you mentioned that the community is very active in voicing their complaints, bugs that they are finding, and their overall passion for the game. I agree that it would be in the developer's best interest to follow up on what the community has to offer as feedback. Looking foward to seeing how this all works out for you. "May the force be with you!"
