Personal Facebook experience

I started this endeavor as an anonymous user and even created an account just for this purpose. After only a couple of days I decided it was better if I used my existing account to better see and understand the people I was watching interact.

I go on Facebook at least once a day to check on my family and friends and see if there is a birthday I may have missed or just to look at the new pictures that have been posted. I have several (10 and counting) grandchildren so I love seeing the new pictures every day.

I did more wandering around than I usually do checking out the privacy policy and the timelines of other people to see how it all fit together. I have to say that Facebook has a bad rep for their privacy issues but upon READING them I have to say they disclose all that will happen, could happen and/or how to avoid things from happening. In the case of becoming an advertisement page for the pages you click "like" on, well, it is in there. If you click like than you are agreeing to have them post on your page. Just because I visit a page to look at a price or what ever it is not mandatory to hit the "like" button.

I did some window shopping to test the theory of "like" versus look and the only pages that showed up on my wall were the ones I clicked the "like" button for. It is also extreamly important that one is careful about what they click on. I added a State where I lived in the 80's and because I did not give it any details; it decided to make up its own and told everyone that "I MOVED TO UTAH" I have yet to figure out how to fix that little error but I will.

The Facebook experience has been an overall positive one for me. I have found astranged family members and reconnected with people I had lost touch with. I get to see my grandkids everyday and can instant message people I need to talk to right away even if they do not have a phone available.

Like anything it is wise to read the terms and conditions that many of us; including myself often do not. But alas, it is easier to complain than to find out it was in black and white for your viewing all along. After all the time i have spent on Facebook I will continue to use it but with a lot more knowledge and understanding.Terms and conditions at your finger tips, click here to view.

  1. I had no idea the "like" button shared information on your page for others to see. I was out at dinner last Thursday and I received a private text message from one of my friends asking who the hot guy in the salon I was in earlier was!!! I was like WHAT???? lol. I told her I had no idea what she was talking about. She told me I liked his picture and posted it on my page. I ws dumbfounded because I didn't share that pic on my page. After reading your blog, I now know that if I like anything it will post to my page for all to see. I must be more careful now! Thank you so much for helping me clear up the "HOT BOY" pic dilema.
