In terms of time commitment, My Fitness
pal requires you to log in your meals and your daily exercise every day. For that reason, it is a daily
commitment. This of course can be a
challenge for some people. However, I
did find it got easier and less time consuming the more I logged in and
recorded my daily meals. The main reason
for this is because My Fitness pal keeps track of everything you eat. That is, they keep a list of your most
popular breakfast, lunch, and dinner items.
Therefore, if you are the type of person, which I am, who has the same
items for breakfast every day, it is very easy to just check the items already
listed and add them to your daily log.
My Fitness pal also keeps a list of your
most popular exercise routines. Again,
this makes it easy to just check the box in the list and update your daily
exercise. For example, I commonly use an
elliptical, walking, and bike riding as some of my normal exercise routines. My Fitness pal already has those listed for
me, which makes tracking daily exercise much less time consuming. Overall, even though it is a daily commitment
to log in and track your daily food and exercise, My Fitness pal does try to
make it easier for you by these convenient shortcuts you see here in the
picture below.
In regards to the time commitment
required to actively participate in the My Fitness Pal community, I did try to
join a group and I made a few friends.
All in all, it does take some time to read other peoples' posts, to read
blogs, and to post on friend's walls. I
joined a group and introduced myself to the group; however, I have yet had
anyone respond back. As I said before, I
am on every day, so I frequently check in with the group and have written some
replies to other group members.
Unfortunately, no one is responding back just yet. We will have to see whether or not I ever
hear back!
Personally, I have not found My Fitness pal to
be all that helpful when it comes to motivation or finding others to interact
with during my personal fitness journey.
I only got a few friend requests
when I first joined and introduced myself to the site. I don't foresee using this site in the future
after this class is over. Mainly because
I have plenty of friends who are motivated to stay healthy; moreover, I believe
I could find "live" partners
to work out with as opposed to "cyber"
partners.
